Vertical Panorama?

Don't know why I never tried this before, but this is two shots stitched together in Photoshop of Monument Rock taken today while I was riding.
It was easy and it came out pretty nice-you don't have the problems with light changing as you pan the camera when you are going vertical.
I'll have to try it with a sunset.

Back to the Backyard

I've had a hard time photographing the desert columbines (also known as Denver columbines) in my back yard. The color has been coming out kind of dull.
Then yesterday evening the sunset cast that beautiful yellow light on everything, and I was ready and got these results.

Trees for the Forest

Starting to run out of pictures from last week. Here are some more forest pictures.

Lake?

Here are a few more images from last weekend. I can't remember the name of the lake, and the mountain? Forget about it.

Little waterfall

This was in the Wild Basin area of RMNP. The falls were only about a foot, and I handheld with an exposure of about 3/4 second with the help of my trusty monopod.
And another picture of the crystal in the kitchen (dirty) window of our cabin.

More shots from RNMP

Spooky Trees

Here are a few more images from Rocky Mountain National Park.

Long's Peak etc

Here is a picture of Long's Peak I took Thursday evening. I am starting to get into the pictures I took with the "good" camera,
Also a picture of some spooky trees I took against the sunset the same evening.

A few more from Estes

We are getting ready to leave, or rather, waiting for this show to be over so we can get ready to leave. I thought I would add a few more photos before it's over.
This cosmo was out in front of the crappy restaurant we went to last night. Fortunately we just had a few screwed up drinks, not food.
This crystal was hanging in the kitchen window of the very nice cabin we stayed at.
I have many more pictures on the "big" camera which I will be adding over the next few days.

Still More Rocky Mountains

Expect to see many pictures from the park over the next few days.

I have over a hundred more on my other camera-which I haven't been able to work with because I forgot the cable.

It is possible to find places away from the crowds, even without strapping on a pack.

You just have to chose the right time of day.

More Rocky Mountains

Well, I got over my snit from yesterday and decided to visit the park during off hours, when the tourists are sleeping or eating and drinking or buying cheap crap in Estes Park. Here is a picture I took at Bear Lake at day break.

THe big problem with going out so early is that the sun comes up so unreasonably early now.

I have many more pictures that I took with the big camera, but I forgot to bring the cable that connects it to the computer so those will just have to wait.

Estes Park

Took this one just down the street from where we are staying in Estes Park while we're here for Quilt Colorado.

I spent most of the afternoon in Rocky Mountain National Park dodging candy-asses from Kansas in their floppy DKNY safari hats with the chin strap parking their giant SUVs in the middle of the highway so they can pet the tame elk.
And I don't mean to get off on a rant here, but if you're afraid of heights you need to stay off Trail Ridge Road, not drive your Escalade 15 miles an hour while taking pictures out the window!

Sheesh-I'm going to try to go up there again this evening when it's a little quieter, and the light is a little softer and take some more pictures.

Levon on the windowsill

Here is Levon, hiding, I think from the terror that has descended on our house. The terror's name is Dexter (he's got a few pictures in earlier posts) and he has completely taken over here, even dominating the dominatrix, the former queen and very former chief troublemaker, Jackie.

Getting my lazy on....

Took this one sitting on the living room floor of the cabin we are renting in Estes Park while Heather was/is working the booth at the show. She says she doesn't need me, but I don't think the quilt ladies like seeing a male in a quilt store or booth at a show.

Anyway-not the most spectacular sunset I've ever taken, and I took some liberties with the color-but I always appreciate a picture, especially a nature picture, taken from the comfort of indoors.

Monday, June 16, 2008

I did my level best to kill my Rocky Mountain Columbines this year-with only limited success as you can see. The desert columbines fared a little better.

We are headed to Estes Park in a few days, and I have high hopes for the flowers, and maybe a few columbines, up there.

Wildflowers!!

What a gorgeous day it is today! Here are a couple of pictures from my bike ride this afternoon. I know I say this over and over again, but it is nice to see the wildflowers out again.

Kipps Loop ctd

Here are a few more views from my mountain bike ride on Kipps loop yesterday. That's Pikes Peak way off to the left there.

And here is another wildflower

Tightrope Cat

Here is Dexter again, balancing on the top of the door. He jumped up there from the chair. In case you're thinking what a clever, sweet little cat he is-note the damage he has done to our design wall at left.

Old Corral

This is an old corral I photographed while mountain biking today at Greenland Open Space today over by Palmer Lake. The sky came out kind of unexciting so I had to replace is with a wonderful New Mexico sky.

And the wildflowers are back!! Isn't it wonderful? I took this one on my ride today also.

Many apologies for going so long (again) between posts. I have been getting my web site (mountainayrestudio.com) off the ground. I may eventually move this blog over there.
